If you’re on social media as a personal trainer or health professional, you know you need to use the best fitness hashtags to reach potential clients on Instagram. The question is: which hashtags should you use?

The health, wellness, and fitness spaces on social media are very crowded, so choosing hashtags that ensure you’re seen and heard—rather than getting lost in the noise—is key. The best way to do that is to focus on hashtags that have less than 500K posts. The number you see next to the hashtag is the number of posts. For example:

To help you get started, we’re sharing the ten best fitness hashtags for your Instagram marketing, including some popular options as well as niche hashtags that will allow you to drill into your ideal client’s mindset.

#FitnessGoals2020

As a physical fitness professional, your goal is to help your client reach their goals, right? So what better way to label your content than with #FitnessGoals2020.Unlike #FitnessGoals as a hashtag itself with 10 million+ posts, adding the year makes it less competitive but still relevant.

Adding 2020 also lets social media users know that you’re showing current results. Plus, you can update this hashtag year after year with images or videos showcasing you or your clients working toward fitness goals.

#WorkoutInspiration

Use this hashtag to show your community what the human body can accomplish with dedication. Inspire your Instagram audience to get started and see the light at the end of the tunnel. Fitness doesn’t come naturally for everyone, so this hashtag allows you to share some much needed inspiration for those who are struggling to commit or push through.

#WorkoutRoutinesForYou

We love this hashtag for its low post volume and thus low competition. Not to mention it's a chance to get the routines you create for your followers out to more people. Use this hashtag to attract new followers who are looking for free exercises so you can build your community while showing your expertise. You can also use this hashtag for workout posts that include a CTA for your 1:1 coaching or other fitness programs.

For example, post a carousel with images of five ab exercises that people can do as a workout at home and then include the CTA: “Click the link in our bio to join our weekly ab-burning virtual workouts!”

#_____EveryDamnDay [Insert Your Speciality]

What’s your specialty or what type of fitness do you enjoy teaching clients the most? Use it to create a niche fitness hashtag that inspires and motivates.

For Yoga enthusiasts, it would be #YogaEveryDamnDay, though this is one of the most popular of these hashtags with 18.4M posts. You could also simplify with #WorkOutEveryDamnDay, 11.4K posts. This is important to keep in mind as you craft your hashtag—remember only to choose ones that have less than 500K posts so you don’t get lost in the noise.

#FitnessGuru

We call this the humble brag. As a fitness professional, you’re an expert and can serve as a guru to your clients. You’re there to teach, train, explain, and whip them into shape while also being available to answer questions and provide guidance. Own your expertise and ability to teach with this fun hashtag that can help you reach people who are looking for fitness support.

#TransformationTuesdays

This one of the most classic fitness hashtags and is a great way to show off your success or that of your clients. But, before ever using this hashtag, it’s important to remember that you need to have consent to post pictures of your clients, especially with something as sensitive as before and after photos. If they’re comfortable with you sharing their journey, a #TransformationTuesday post is a great way to show the value of what you do.

Note that #TransformationTuesday, without the plural, has 15.3 million posts, which is much steeper competition. Add the “S” to ensure plenty of potential clients to see your content instead of getting lost in the millions of other posts.

#SweatyWorkout

Getting and staying fit isn’t just about looking great in the perfectly filtered photo—it’s about the sweaty, messy, hard work that comes before that. Promote the realistic side of training by proudly posting sweaty selfies alongside this hashtag. Showing real images helps with your overall branding because 90 percent of consumers agree that authenticity is important when deciding what accounts to follow or support on social media.

#HealthandWellnessCoach

If you offer more than just training, make sure to shout about that on social media. So many physical fitness professionals are also nutritionists or provide mental wellness or mindset programs. We know that being healthy is more than just your body, so use this hashtag with posts that discuss your holistic approach.

Additionally, there are many people who, unfortunately, try to use this title without real experience. As a certified professional, you can stand out from the crowd of fake Instagram influencers and wannabe coaches.

#HealthyLunchIdeas

People love to see pictures of appealing and beautiful food and you probably make food that tastes and looks good. Diversify your content to include photos of your own healthy meals, especially lunches—when people think healthy lunch, they think: boring salad. Show your community that they can make healthy lunches that are also tasty and filling.

#StrongerThanYourExcuses

People follow fitness accounts to be inspired to stay active, move their body and get fit. You want your followers to feel empowered and encouraged by your content so that they reach out to you, which helps you grow your business and support others. Remind your followers that they are stronger than the excuses that come up—that they’re worthy of making time to workout and take care of themselves.

Use the Right Fitness Hashtags on Instagram

Use this list of fitness hashtags as a starting point for developing a hashtag strategy that helps you reach your ideal clients and build a strong community on Instagram. With the right hashtags, you’ll attract the people who want to hear your message and need the services that you offer.
